Oops! European trade friends of U.S. get glyphosate, too

For the first time ever, monitoring has been carried out across Europe for the presence of the deadly weedkiller glyphosate (Roundup) in human bodies.

People in 18 countries across Europe have been found to have glyphosate in their urine, according to the results of a study commissioned by the Friends of the Earth Europe.

Europeans, many of whom visit the markets daily to obtain the freshest foods possible, are understandably upset at the intrusion of American practices into their Old World farm fields. But it turns out that modern farmers across Europe now commonly use that ‘magic’ weedkiller, Roundup.

The exposure to glyphosate is expected to rise further if more GMO foods are okayed in a previously reluctant Europe. Currently 14 new GM crops designed to be cultivated with glyphosate are waiting for approval in the European Union.

As reported in GM Watch, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing to RAISE the allowable level of glyphosate in our food.
